Tomorrow Cory and I are starting the South Beach Diet. Details of how things are going will be in my healthy_girl journal, which is a public journal. It won't be exciting, though. It's more for me to look back and see what worked and what didn't.

One of the nice things about having it rainy and cooler now is that Trout is lovey all the time. When it's hot she tries to stay away from us 'cause we're hot. But now she's on my lap and is looking up at me with her eyes half-closed.

I started today (wil's going to start tomorrow) and it went pretty well. I had an egg for breakfast, string cheese & carrots as a snack, chicken caesar salad for lunch and chicken with artichoke hearts, peppers and feta.

You're not supposed to have carrots in Phase One. :P

But good! It sounds so good when you type it out, but then when it comes time to eat it for the fifteenth time, I'm sure it's not so good.

good thing I had only 2 carrots :-)
Atkins allows them I think- I bet if I ate 2-3 baby carrots a day they wouldn't be the reason I didn't lose 8lbs in 2 weeks, but I'll try to limit my carrot intake nonetheless. Perhaps I'll go get the book tomorrow too!

Yeah, I don't know why they don't want you to eat carrots, and they want you to limit your tomatoes, because you can have a bunch of V8... I guess that's why they're doctors and I'm not.

Diets like that always scare me. Right now, I'm seeing a nutritionist and a personal trainer and we've talked about healthy amounts of weight to lose. It is suggested that a person should only aim to lose 1-2 pounds a week up to about 7 pounds a month. My trainer said if you lose more than that, you probably aren't losing just fat. I'd just be careful about some of those diets. Maybe talk it over with a nutritionist or your family doctor just to be sure.

My mom has a thyroid condition - it was working too hard so she started taking pills to slow it down, but the pills stopped her thyroid altogether, which somehow also affected her metabolism. I'm not sure if she talked to her doctor about the diet, but she probably did since she has to see him all the time for her thyroid. It was also developed by a cardiologist, whose first priority was making people healthy, and didn't even think about the losing weight part of it until people started losing it. :)
