Speed Bump Poll!

Poll #245411 Speed Bumps

When I drive over those speed bumps in parking lots laid end-to-end with a space between them, I...

swerve to the left so my 2 left tires go through the space between the bumps
32(34.8%)
swerve to the right so my 2 right tires go through the space between the bump and the curb
15(16.3%)
drive over them with all 4 tires
45(48.9%)

Why do you drive over the speed bumps like that?

What's your speed when you drive over them?

Fast (over 5mph)
44(47.8%)
Slow (5mph or under)
21(22.8%)
Depends/don't know
27(29.3%)

Do you think that speed bumps are a valid way to slow the speed of traffic?

Yes
44(48.4%)
No
41(45.1%)
Don't know/don't care
6(6.6%)

this is totally because of the bumps in our apartment complex, right? :)

Re:
It is! :D Partly because it bugs me that people go agonizingly slow at those first bumps and then run the stop sign, and partly because people swerve almost into me to avoid going over with all their tires.

Re:
yep, I agree. brandt has bad shoulders and it makes them hurt when I go over them too fast. which is like, all the time. so the bumps have caused some negative moments in my car too. :)

I don't think speed bumps do jack crap to slow people down. I think road humps do a much better job of that :)

Re:
When I was looking for a reason why people swerve to go around the bumps with two wheels (like almost everybody does in our parking lot) I couldn't find anything except for a bunch of "traffic calming devices are stupid" sites. :D

Re:
I'll swerve because doing that makes the bumps that I feel on my side of the car a lot less severe. But I guess I'm more considerate than the people in your apartment complex. Cause if someone is coming toward me, I'll go over them with all 4 tires.

In an empty parking lot, I'll avoid them completely. :)

Gah. I have bumps like those at my apartments. To get to my place from the road I go over a pair of those end-to-enders, then I go over a DOUBLE SET of them, spaced PERFECTLY such that just as your car is coming back down and the shocks are compressing, it starts to rise on the second set, which even at ridiculously slow speeds just rockets the rear of my car into the air.

I am extremely tempted to remove them. By any means.
