Tin Can Wall Garden

I've seen this a couple of times, and I think I'd like to try it out sometime when I have a little more wall/fence space on the patio: a tin can wall garden. It looks like they used those big coffee cans, but I wonder if you could put just one little baby plant in a regular-sized can and still have it work.

How do they stop the tin cans from going all rusty and leaving a long brown streak down the wall?

I think they're spray-painted first, but if you punch a hole in it for the water to drain out, do you also paint the inside, or will the rust come out through the drain? I have no idea. :)

Cans
No, you have to use coffee cans, painted sky blue, and you have to have them on a brick wall!

Or, you could just use whatever cans you want, on your patio fence!

But, what she said, about using Rust-Oleum paint.

Re: Cans
I was just wondering about the size because I don't know what'd grow and be happy for that long inside a little tiny can, that's all. But I guess there's one way to find out!
