We took a little trip over there and decided we'd use the $50 in tip money I'd gotten yesterday. We bought admission to three attractions for the price of two: Ripley's, the Wax Museum, and the Undersea Gardens.
We went to Ripley's first. I'd been there years and years ago (though I'm not sure if it was that particular location). It was OK.
Then we went to the Wax Museum. It was over so quickly that we decided we'd call that one the one we didn't pay for. But we hadn't gotten to the Undersea Gardens yet.
Undersea Gardens is impressive on the outside - a partly-submerged 100-foot "vessel" with a gift shop taking up the entire top deck. We went downstairs, and were in a dark, musty-smelling room with empty "tidepools" taking up one half of the deck and five or six rows of benches taking up part of the other side. There was a row of little windows all around, and the benches were facing some of the windows. Outside the windows was probably a ten- or fifteen-foot space, with walls going up to the surface, and some anemones and fish trapped inside.
After waiting for ten minutes, a girl came downstairs and turned the lights down further, put on a CD of a guy talking, and gave her own little commentary in-between the guy's narration about how Earth should be called "Planet Ocean" since it's mostly ocean, not earth. A diver came down into the space outside the windows and picked up a crab to show everybody while the girl talked, and picked up a sea star, and picked up a wolf eel. And then it was over. It was fifteen minutes long, max. No octopus like it said we'd see in the brochure, no surprises, no nothing. We were SO disappointed. What a waste of money.
So we drove home, and picked up tickets to see The Bourne Supremacy at Carmike. We had some time so we stopped by Safeway to get some dishwashing soap, and I found Interweave Knits' crochet issue! I'm going to start one of the projects as soon as I'm finished with the poncho I'm an eighth of the way through with. (I guess I have Christmas ornaments too... but I had a two-month crochet hiatus and I missed it!)
And in ten minutes, Ken Jennings makes his return to Jeopardy after a summer vacation! Whee!
