Last night I was asleep for a few minutes and then all of a sudden I was coughing and choking, and it woke me up. 'Twas an allergy attack - I was wheezing and itchy. I woke poor Cory up but he fell back asleep pretty quick, and so did I, after taking an Alavert and a puff on my Albuterol.

Sometime last night the volunteer coordinator for DaVinci Days (she also happens to be one of Cory's coworkers) emailed us and gave us a spot to work. I guess I'm going to be the lead in the "Build your own Robot" workshop. Whoa. I guess you don't have to know a ton about robots, so that's good.

How often are you using the albuterol? If it is more than one or two times a week, you need to be on preventative medication- regular asthma attacks can lead to emphysema. (And if you're having attacks that need a rescue inhaler regularly, you're probably having low-level attacks often, which also cause lung damage.)

The last time I used it was Saturday, and now it's Monday... so I guess I could be having it at least three. The doctor prescribed a corticosteroid to prevent the attacks, but I haven't been using it because I don't want to get infections.

It's only happening because of allergies, and the grass pollen is almost gone; so it won't be happening much anymore.

Look into the following medications, anyhow: Singulair (which is also effective for allergies, has almost no side-effects, and is reasonably priced) and Advair (only if a necessity). Have you seen an allergist/immunologist?

I haven't; just a doctor (who wasn't even my normal doctor). I've thought about talking to an allergist though - I'll have to see what I can do.

Last year I didn't wheeze at all. In fact, the last time it happened was when I lived in Monmouth, which is 20-30 minutes from here, in 1999. (The other years I didn't live in the middle of the valley so I wasn't around as much green stuff. Heh)

Hm, well, it would be definitely worth your time getting checked out/tested at one.
