Last night on the news there was a story about a photographer who is taking pictures of crying children - and she's making them cry by taking candy away from them. People are calling it child abuse - most of the press I've seen about her, actually, is negative.

What do YOU think?

My first response was ... HAHAHAHA!
But then again, maybe I'm just cruel too ;)

The concept is a bit odd and perhaps a little mean. But child abuse? Definitely not. The people calling it so should maybe get out there and try to help some children/people who are actually being abused.

I can't stand the shiny-smooth Maxim sort of look to those photos.

Yeah, it kind of looks like half-painted.

see, if she would have titled the exhibit something like "don't take my candy" it would be brilliant.
however, putting them all under the context of how the children would feel if they knew how screwed up our world is is just lame. that's what people should be complaining about.

Funny you should say that, because that's what frustrates me the most. I don't think it's cruel to take candy away from a baby, but I do think it's dumb to title it "Four More Years." It just sounds contrived.

OK...child abuse? No.
I'm kinda surprised the parents would let some "artist" do that to their kids though. I know each and every one of those looks too well.

That said... "politically charged"?
Honestly, therein lies my reaction - Oh GET OVER YOURSELF! "Shock and awe and faith?" Please. I'm sorry, I guess I call bullshit on that part. These aren't pictures having to do with who is in office. What a load of crap.
If the exhibit was called "Taking candy from a baby" I would probably be a lot less pfffffft about it. In fact, I think I might have kinda liked it - but making it into some dumb political statement is just.... pthhhrrrpt.
*adds this one to the "reasons why being a Democrat has become embarrassing for me" list*

I don't think of it as child abuse. It's art and I can respect her methods, provided that the parents of the children agreed.
Is it art that I would enjoy viewing? Not at all. I don't like crying children in any context- my own included. I find that it strikes a nerve with me- not having anything to do with the politically motivated theme (which I is a real stretch), but more so because I find crying children to be one of the most annoying things in this world.

Yeah, I'm going to Hell. I'm a bad woman who doesn't like kids. :-)
