Everyday Cubism

My sweater is up on the Interweave Crochet preview site!

More pictures at my Flickr page or on the IC site!

I'm proud of how it turned out - it's got a good shape to it, and the buttons look SO much better than the zipper I'd put into my first version.

I like the asymmetrical placket. Adorable!

Thanks! I feel like it's a little plain compared to the other projects in the mag, but it's also something a lot of people can wear so I think it'll still be received well.

Very cool. So that's a pattern you created?

I wish I lived in Portland so I could knit and crochet with you. I suck at both :)

Yep, designed the sweater and wrote the pattern!

See, there's another reason to move to Portland! (I know solteronita showed you a few!) Except I'm not all that good at knitting - I can do it but I much prefer crochet.

That's a neat shape and neckline! I like the stitch pattern - the texture it creates - it's appealing, especially since I usually prefer working vertically. I will have to look it up. I prefer zippers myself, but I'm abnormally button-avoidant. ;)

I'm excited for you! =)

It's the Marguerite Stitch (that's not the best tutorial, but there it is) - I really like it, it's much more interesting than singles or doubles and it works up pretty quickly.

I thought I'd like the zipper on this one, but it really compromised the drape and made it look bad. It looks much nicer now with buttons because the fabric isn't stuck to one spot on the front edges, whether it's fastened or not.

Yeah I can totally see how a zipper could be wonky in that. Too... stiff? for the shape of it. It would be hard to adjust smoothly to different body types/sizes as well

Thanks for the stitch pattern link, I will try it out! Busy trying to whip out some Xmas presents here and I'm getting too uncomfortably close to deadline.

Yay! That was my goal - to be something everybody would wear!
